The invention relates to a displacement detection sensor (15) for powered assistance system of an opening in a vehicle, that comprises: a target (16) to be connected upon a movement to the opening whose displacement is to be detected; at least one electric component (17, 18) interacting with the target (16) so as to generate an output signal characteristic of the target (16) displacement. The sensor includes an unit (21) for managing the power supply of said component (17, 18) according to a low energy consumption mode (sleep mode), that is configured so as to periodically supply the component (17, 18) in standby during a time interval sufficient for detecting a change in the target (16) position, the period between two time intervals being selected so that a predetermined maximal displacement speed of the target (16) can be detected.
