Abstract

The invention is in the field of molecular medicine, more in particular in the field of identifying new compounds for the treatment or prevention of diseases as well as ageing. The invention provides a method for the screening and/or identification of compounds that are capable of preventing or ameliorating the adverse effects of reactive oxygen species on eukaryotic cells. More in particular, the invention provides a method for the identification of an active therapeutic compound for preventing or ameliorating the adverse effects of reactive oxygen species on eukaryotic cells comprising the steps of:providing an assay wherein the expression of a pathway can be determined under the influence of a reactive oxygen species, providing a candidate therapeutic compound, determining the ability of said therapeutic compound to normalize the expression of said gene in the presence of said oxidant, wherein said pathway is selected from the group consisting of pathways as disclosed herein
