Abstract

A device 100 for providing a node in a distributed ledger, such as a blockchain, has a casing 104 which at least partly encloses a processor 101 configured to match transactions and a memory 103 configured to store transactions received from other nodes. When the casing 104 is compromised, at least a part of the device 100 is rendered non-functional such that the node may be tamper-proofed against a bad actor. Preferably, transaction data or encryption keys stored in the memory 103 are rendered inaccessible or destroyed by a battery powered circuit (figure 10) which applies a voltage to the memory 103 when the casing 104 is opened. The casing 104 may be fitted with radio frequency shielding. All nodes in the distributed ledger may be provided on such a device 100.
